28 DAY WRITING CHALLENGE: Day 05
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL !? WHERE MY HORNS AT !??
Well you should be, because it’s Super Bowl Sunday !!
Ahhh it’s that time of the year again. I’ve always liked the Super Bowl, for about as long as I can remember actually knowing of its existence, possibly ever since NFL Gameday 96 on the Playstation One. I could never actually see it live until about 2007, because it was never on tv where I lived until that year. But the second that I could watch it live on tv - I made a point of watching it live every time, even if that meant taking the next day off (which it always did, because the Super Bowl only ends at around 4am over here in Europe) Even Super Bowl XLIII with the Steelers versus the Cardinals, I watched that one too, which was SO boring…
The Super Bowl has everything a televised sport needs to be entertaining = it’s a “do or die”, “the whole nine yards” (why does that saying have 9 yards when it takes 10 yards to clear a 1st down?), ”everything’s on the line”, last attempt at glory.
The entire season has lead right up to this very moment. None of this MLB World Series / NBA Finals / NHL Stanley Cup “play seven games” bullshit. ONE GAME. ONE SHOT. ONE CHANCE. It’s like Life itself, only the people actually playing the game are all millionaires trying to win a shiny trophy and a gaudy bedazzled ring.
The half-time show is where it falls apart a little bit. This year - why Madonna? Of all people to “entertain” (and I use that term loosely in this case) an audience the majority of whom are male and in fact don’t like Madonna. At least a couple years ago, there was an actual boob on-screen (his name was Justin Timberlake) WHY couldn’t they just get Springsteen again? He’s got an album coming out in a month or two, bringing in a guy like him is an honest no-brainer situation. But no… we’re stuck with “Crazy Arms” and possibly Nicky Minaj and LMFAO to boot!? *grumble grumble*
I’m gonna say it (possibly jinx it at the exact same time) but I want the New York Giants to win. I am a Giants fan. I watched them win Super Bowl XLII against the very same New England Patriots, with the famous “helmet catch” and everything. The problem is, Tom Brady can throw. The Pats clear plays that other teams just don’t. Long “Hail Mary” high-risk type throws, AND THEY CATCH THEM. It’s unexplainable sometimes.
Anyway - my original plan was to watch it at home, whilst eating massive amounts of junk food (thank you diet “cheat day”!) but my friends High Noon, Sicily and Anime Nicky are going to a bar in town to watch it, and asked me to join them. As much as I’d like to stay home and watch it (and I would like to do that… very much) I should be social. And they thought of me when they made these plans, so it’s the least that I can do. It should be fun. I’ll try my best to make it fun, if it isn’t.
