George Lucas Says Han Never Shot First | Badass Digest

I honestly don’t understand the how George Lucas, of all people, just doesn’t get it!

In the interview, Lucas says: “[people] wanted Solo (who seemed to be the one who shot first in the original) to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.”

I NEVER wanted Solo to be a “cold blooded killer”, neither have I ever thought of him in that way. What my tiny child brain saw in that scene was a “cowboy style quick draw.” Han shot both in self-defense AND because the person who shot last in that situation WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.

Just like Greedo was.

NOT because Greedo had the aim of a stormtrooper, but because he was slow on the draw and lost. Simple!

Plus, why have a shot of Han slowly taking his blaster OUT OF THE HOLSTER, if he wasn’t supposed to fire it first? Then many, many years later, Lucas digitally re-edited the scene in the lastest version to make it look like Han somehow dodged Greedo’s shot WHILE SITTING DOWN, which is both preposterous AND stupid.

People weren’t supposed to like Han Solo, which is exactly makes it a MILLION times better when he suddenly flies back at the end to save Luke, joining the rebellion and take down the Deathstar in episode VI.

I don’t know how THE ONE person, who created the biggest and possibly the longest lasting franchise in the history of the world EVER - doesn’t even understand dramatic narrative, or the fact that not every character has to be “perfectly clean and defined.”

HECK, even Darth Vader was evil - and he was once a whiney lil kid who somehow built a droid on Tatooine…. *grumble grumble, stupid prequels, grumble, midichlorians, grumble grumble*
